Step into the world of ballroom dance with Encore's Ballroom Experience, led by the talented and accomplished Andy Young. This class goes beyond learning dance steps—it's about mastering the art and technique that make ballroom dance both captivating and rewarding.
Students will gain valuable skills, such as social awareness, confidence, teamwork, and mutual respect, as they explore the beauty and precision of ballroom dance. With a focus on movement, connection, and artistry, this class fosters joy, accomplishment, and personal growth.
Dances and Techniques
Students will learn movements and techniques in various styles of ballroom. Possible dances:
Cha Cha
Samba
Rumba
Paso Doble
Jive
Waltz
Tango
Quickstep
Foxtrot
Viennese Waltz
Triple Swing
West coast swing
Students will have the exciting opportunity to showcase their skills in at least two performances during the semester.
Meet Your Instructor: Andy Young
Andy Young brings decades of ballroom expertise to the class. He began dancing in high school and received scholarships to UVU, where he competed at world-class levels with the university's esteemed Ballroom Touring Company. Andy’s dance journey has taken him around the globe, from competing in national and international events to performing in Europe, Australia, and China.
In addition to his performance accolades, Andy has over 10 years of experience directing high school ballroom companies and choreographing for local teams . He earned Master’s in Education, with his thesis focusing on ballroom education.
Outside the dance floor, Andy is an online science mentor, a community musical theater performer, adventurer, and a father of four. His hobbies include surfing, rock climbing, and other outdoor adventures.
