Inclusive ASL Magic at Alice in Wonderland Junior
At Encore’s recent Alice in Wonderland Junior matinee performance on Saturday, we proudly offered a truly inclusive theatrical experience that combined exceptional quality with heartfelt accessibility. Two skilled ASL interpreters provided clear and expressive sign language interpretation for a group of over 30 deaf patrons, ensuring that our deaf friends—who might not typically have the opportunity to enjoy theater—were fully engaged in the magical journey of the show.
We are especially grateful to have had Mary and Raegann join us as our ASL interpreters for the performance. These intern ASL students from Utah Tech University brought both passion and precision to their work, translating the nuances of the production into a language that spoke directly to every member of the audience.
The performance itself was a standout display of creativity and craftsmanship. The production showcased captivating musical numbers, and stunning visual elements that brought the whimsical world of Wonderland to life. Every detail, from the elaborate costumes to the imaginative set design, reflected the dedication and talent of our entire team.
This special event was made possible through a close collaboration between Encore and Andrea Luikart, along with Kenny, Mary, and Raegann. Andrea’s instrumental efforts and her team’s invaluable contributions ensured the inclusion of ASL interpreters, making the performance accessible for every audience member. Their hard work elevated the show to a level that truly honored both the spirit of the production and Encore’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity.
We look forward to continuing and expanding this relationship and program at Encore, making live theater accessible to everyone while maintaining the highest standards of performance quality. Thank you to all who supported this endeavor and to our Encore community for making such meaningful inclusion possible.
Join us as we continue to break new ground in inclusive theater—bringing magic to every audience, one performance at a time.
